What is the child‘s favorite day? Of course, it‘s Birthday! That‘s why children came to the celebration of Lithuania‘s Independence day, the 101st birthday, dressed in folk costumes and smiles up to their ears. As per custom, we sang the national anthem before the start of the day‘s events, which was crowned with a light rain, signature for Lithuania. The main event was held in the school hall, where gathered not only the students and their parents, but also other members of the community. „Kaip brangi esi, žeme tu gimta. / Nors būnu toli, tau širdy vieta”, we sang together. We also paid homage to the people, who contributed to the development of our Lithuanian community in California, San Francisco area.
Our community received the greatest gift from our students – the folk dance performance. Everyone supported the children, stomping their feet and clapping, as all, little and big ones, showed off their dance.
And the thing that gathered everyone together, was the food that everyone brought. Because it is such a wholesome feeling, to gather as a family, to sit at one table and share the memories and news!
Happy Lithuania‘s Independence day!
