Saturday, December 16th Lithuanian school “Genys” celebrated Christmas. The school hall was decorated for the holidays and both young and old were invited to watch the Christmas program. At the start of the program the church’s pastor said a short prayer and prayed that our school would continue to grow and teach Lithuanian language and traditions. The youngest in our Lithuanian community “The Rabbits’ Club” sang two songs with their parents. Santa Claus came with bags full of presents to watch the school children perform. The school’s dance and song teacher Vanesa Kašelionytė prepared a play “I Believe…” (based on The Polar Express) with the entire school. The oldest students acted, the younger ones danced and sang, and the kindergarteners danced and sang “The Smallest Train”. The kids did a great job. The performance ended with the song “Jingle Bells” (translated to Lithuanian). Santa Claus was so impressed with the childrens’ performance that he passed out presents to all of the children who were very excited. All the children were happy and excited. After the program everyone enjoyed the food that the school’s parents brought: desserts, herring, sandwiches, fruit, vegetables and all types of desserts. Afterwards the children played various games outside, that the older children supervised, such as throwing balls, etc. and they won gummy bears and candy. The parents participated in a raffle and the ones that won got to take their prizes home. It was a fun event for everyone.
We look forward to celebrating other celebrations with the community.
