Time truly flies and yet again, as this past Saturday, on the 19th of May, we celebrated another successful and eventful year at Lithuanian Saturday Language School “Genys”! The atmosphere that day was full of cheer, warmth and appreciation.
This year, Lithuanian Language School end of the year celebration reminded us of Lithuanian festivities with family and friends. During this event, we honored not only our own children or the off-springs of our friends, but instead we were honored everyone’s dedication and effort fostering Lithuanian language and traditions. Our families dedicate every Saturday for Lithuanian school and we thank them for that!
Our kindergarten students, led by teachers Asta and Aušra, had students perform “Do, Re, Mi” from the Broadway Musical “Sound of Music,” where every student represented a musical note. Second and Third Grade students performed song “Reikia Draugą Turėti” (“It is good to have a friend”) with teacher Aiste, reminding the audience about the importance of friendship. In the adapted play “Tomas ir stebuklingos pupos” (“Tomas and the magical beans") performed by Sixth Gade students, we witnessed incredible acting skills, originality and smooth partnership between students.
Thanks to Song/Dance Instructor Vanesa, we had a pleasure to hear Lithuanian folk song “Palankėj Palankėj” and unofficial Lithuanian-American scout anthem “Žalia Pieva – Lygumėlis.” This year teacher Vanesa has implemented a very successful and enriching music and folk dance curriculum for all of our Lithuanian Language School students.
To culminate, every student received a diploma and our whole community had a chance to enjoy a lovely potluck while celebrating and appreciating one another!
Thank you everyone for an amazing 2017-2018 school year and we will see you in the Fall!
